Nancy Nwadire This gorgeous and insanely talented woman is the Creative Director of Iconic Invanity. Uganda/British ethnicity, Nancy Nwadire believes that her first brush with fashion occurred as she watched her mother create hand-crafted dresses for her siblings. Her love for colour and pretty sparkly things later paved way for her to start recreating her own clothes, which she purchased off the rack and then reinvented to her taste. Nancy went on to study Fashion Retail and Management at the London Institute (an affiliate of the London College of Fashion.) and Psychology, although she ascribes the intensity of her creativity to passion, perseverance and focus. Nancy Nwadire’s creations are detailed, bold and breathtakingly beautiful. Her craftsmanship tell the story in unison with the fabric and creates the life of attention the wearer identifies with. Her interpretation of her vision is seen in every detail of the hand crafted pieces she creates. My personal significance to attention to detail is for the owner to have something that is timeless, beautiful and wearable; pieces that everyone would fall in love with’, says Nancy. These pieces tell the story of the wearer; a woman who is confident and elegant at all times. She appreciates the finer things in life and loves unique detailing of a bespoke piece, pieces which tell the story of who she is as a woman, a mother, a wife, her culture etc, Nancy elaborates. Founded in 2009, the high-end lifestyle brand, exquisitely combines an ‘afrocentric’ flavour with the Western influences. For a brand which displayed its first major collection in 2012 at the Arise Magazine Fashion week 2012, Iconic Invanity has stamp its presence as house hold name and it continues to expand. In November 2015, DNA by Iconic Invanity – Iconic Invanity’s affordable line designed by Nancy Nwadire’s 17 year old daughter – Destiny Nwadire debut at Heineken Lagos Fashion & Design Week 2015. The collection themed “Garden” was inspired by arrays of tropical flower petals. Bold colour palettes dominated the collection, from Sunflower yellow baby doll dresses, to salmon crop tops with shorts, the collection embodied the DNA of its mother brand. Impeccable tailoring, detailed yet minimal signature beadwork, stamped throughout the collection, resulting in fun, chic and playful pieces, which can be worn from day to evening. “For the future, Iconic Invanity plans to continue to build the brand into a bigger success and allow our creativity to be the focal point of what drives us”. Eight years down the line, Nancy Nwadire remains one of the strongest holds in Africa’s Luxury Fashion.
